John was born in Columbus, Georgia to John Carlton and Sylvia Lee Shavor. In early 1958, John and the family moved to New Jersey where he grew up and graduated from Brick High School. He went on to work with his father at Hahn Brothers in New York City where he became a professional packer and installer of fine art to many of the elite of New York.
John and his mother Sylvia returned to Georgia in 2001 where he worked with his brother until his mother’s health declined. John took care of his mother until her death in 2018.
John is preceded in death by his father John Carlton Shavor and mother Sylvia Lee Shavor.
Those that will celebrate his life are his brother Tony Downer and his wife Nina Downer of Roswell Georgia, his sister Manina Roman and her husband Sean Roman of Casselberry Florida, his niece Heather MacMullan, nephews Kevin Downer, Matthew Paul and Patrick Roman, along with eleven great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held for the family at 2:00 Saturday May 14, 2022, at Striffler-Hamby in Columbus Georgia.
