A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends before and after the service.
Jose Antonio Fernandez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 1, 1954 to the late Jose A. Fernandez-Rodriguez and Adelaida Rodriguez-Muniz. After graduation from high school 1972, the governor of Puerto Rico helped him get an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Jose was a retired Major with the United States Army; he served his country for over 20 years. After his retirement from the Army Jose worked as a private contractor throughout the world. Jose loved to play golf, travel, the Florida Gators and most of all his family. He was a loving husband to Lourdes Maria Franchi Fernandez. He was a loving father to Christina Fernandez and Bianca Fernandez. Beloved grandfather to Jacob Isenhour and brother to Dolly Fernandez. Joe was preceded in death by his father Jose A. Fernandez-Rodriguez, his mother Adelaida Rodriguez-Muniz, and his brother, Manuel Fernandez.
Jose had a loving spirit with an infectious personality; he never met a stranger regardless of which part of the world he was in. He was a man of many talents and was very knowledgeable in a range of subjects-Florida Gators being his most loved subject. Jose loved to spend time with his grandson Jacob. Jacob was the universe to Jose, golf was one of their favorite past times.
