

SFC (Ret) Lindbergh Thorne, age 86, resident of Columbus, died on Monday, March 2, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Thursday, March 5, 2015, 10 a.m. with Reverend Hank Reeves officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Thorne, son of the late Porter F. Thorne and Lyke Connie Shehann, was born March 21, 1928 in Barbour County, Alabama. He was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably for over 22 years. During his distinguished military career, he served in World War II, Korea Era Conflict, and also the Vietnam Era Conflict. After retirement from the military, he began working at a local printing company and worked for Columbus Water Works, where he retired after 10 years of service. Mr. Thorne was a member of Pinehurst Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Grace Thorne and a daughter, Diane Thorne. Mr. Thorne is survived by six children, Jerry Thorne of Columbus, Sylvia Turner and her husband David of North Augusta, South Carolina, Robert Thorne and his wife Rachel of LaGrange, Georgia, Jimmy Thorne of Columbus, Mark Thorne and his wife Allison of Columbus, and Ronny Thorne and his wife Brenda of Fortson, Georgia; brothers; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.
