
Madelyn Reeves Thornton, 83, passed away at her residence on July 27, 2013. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. P. Shane Green officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will greet friends at St. Paul United Methodist Church beginning at 10:00 AM until service time on Tuesday.
Mrs. Thornton was born August 21, 1929 in Columbus, GA to the late Roy Clyde Seay and Ruth Duncan Seay. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, School of Journalism and went on to receive her Master’s degree from Columbus State University. Mrs. Thornton retired from teaching with the Muscogee County School District after over 30 years of service. She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Miller-Wilson Sunday school class, the Label Ladies, Meals on Wheels and was a former president of the UMW. Mrs. Thornton was also a volunteer with the Open Door Community House. She willfully dedicated many years of her life to volunteer work and enjoyed helping others during difficult times.
Survivors include her two daughters, Lyn Seay Christiansen of Woodstock, GA and Fran Reeves Morelock and husband, Mark of Abbeville, AL; four grandchildren, Carson Christiansen of Woodstock, GA, Justin Christiansen of Woodstock, GA, Steven Morelock and wife, Tara of Troy, AL and Anna Morelock of Destin, FL; one great-grandson, Colen; two brothers, John Duncan Seay and wife, Anne Pope of LaGrange, GA and Roy Clyde Seay, Jr. and wife, Sandra of Greenville, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Special friends of the “Monday’s with Madelyn” group, Ann Williams, Vicki White, Carole Rutland, Dell Williams and Pat Rose, will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to give a sincere thanks to Flora McBride for her kindness and excellent care provided to Madelyn during her illness.
