

CW2 (Ret) Manly C. Buxton, age 83, resident of Columbus, died on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Midtown Medical Center West, Columbus Hospice. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Monday, November 24, 2014, 11 a.m. with Reverend Jonathan Gates and Reverend Norman Dunlap officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Mitchell, 1 p.m. EST. Pallbearers will be Roger Cassman II, Sonny Head, Doc Head, Baron Conklin, Jim Tate, and John Ohrt.
Mr. Buxton, son of the late Manly Collier Buxton and Iola Mae Mott Buxton, was born August 1, 1931 in Selma, Alabama. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, and Order of the Eastern Star,Columbus Chapter #261. Mr. Buxton served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for over 24 years, retiring at Fort Benning, Georgia. After his distinguished military career, he worked at Columbus Regional Healthcare until his retirement. Mr. Buxton enjoyed spending time with his family and had a passion for singing.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby Jeanette Swindal Buxton of Columbus; his daughter, Debra Densmore of Columbus, sons, Donald Buxton of Orlando, Florida, and Kenneth Buxton of Columbus; five grandchildren, Amanda Sutherland of Columbus, Ryan Buxton of Columbus, David Buxton of Columbus, Alice Buxton of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jack Buxton of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Abby Sutherland and Cameron Buxton; other relatives and friends.
