It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Anthony Ashley on May 1, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. Mark was a cherished husband, a devoted son, and a kind friend, whose remarkable life touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on March 11, 1970, in East Point, Georgia, he was the beloved son of Tony and Nancy Ashley, who preceded him in death.
Mark spent most of his early life in Lebanon, Tennessee, where he attended Lebanon High School before furthering his education at Belmont University in Nashville. Mark spent his early career with Delta Airlines in Nashville, Tennessee and the last 25 years as a technical programmer with TSYS in Columbus, Georgia.
In 1999, Mark married the love of his life, Kelly, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership filled with laughter, love, and mutual support. Together, they created a home that welcomed the warmth of family and the joy of shared interests. Their bond was a beautiful testament to love’s enduring power and happiness. Mark’s family legacy continues with his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Evelyn Howard, and his cherished sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Mark Lane. He was a proud Uncle Mop to his nieces and nephew, Browning, Gilland, and Ella Kay Lane, who brought immense joy to his life. Mark also leaves behind his beloved aunt, Wanda Carlock (David), and uncle, Mike Smith, along with cousins, Susan Hall, Chris Smith (Lindsey), and Stacie Sloan (Hank).
Mark was known for his kind and generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand, a sense of humor and laugh that could brighten any situation, and an unwavering love for his family. Mark’s strong faith led him to a love of in-depth Bible studies which sustained and expanded that faith. He was an avid music lover and a talented guitar player, often sharing his passion for music with those around him. In addition to his musical pursuits, Mark found solace in nature through bass fishing. When not fishing, he loved making handmade fishing lures. His love for motor sports, the University of Georgia Bulldogs, and all his adopted pets further defined the man he was—one who embraced life with open arms and an open heart.
Mark’s legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. He leaves us with countless memories, a legacy of love, and a reminder to cherish every moment. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
As a family, we invite you all to pray this prayer with us:
Dear Heavenly Father
When my heart feels heavy and my spirit feels weak, I call upon Your mighty strength. Infuse me with courage that only comes from above.
Let Your power be made perfect in my weakness, for when I am weak, then I am strong in You.
As I navigate this valley, be my guiding light, my shelter from the storm. Remind me that You have overcome the world, and through You, I too can overcome.
I surrender my burdens at Your feet, knowing You care for me.
Help me to see beyond my circumstances and fix my eyes on Your eternal promises. I stand on Your Word that strengthens me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
If you are so inclined, we would ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mark’s memory to Paws Humane Society in Columbus, Georgia or the Humane Society of Harris County in Hamilton, Georgia.
