Martha Yarbrough Bishop

Born Martha Lucile Yarbrough in Beulah, Alabama, she was the daughter of Lallie Flanagan Yarbrough and A.B. Yarbrough. She graduated from West Point High School and attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery. In 1957, she moved to Columbus, Georgia, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

After settling in Columbus, Martha worked as a dental hygienist until she married. She remained close with many of her high school friends throughout her life, and they enjoyed taking beach trips together for many years.

She was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of Samuel C. Bishop. Survivors include her son, David Bishop (Christy) of Woodstock, Georgia; her daughter, Betsy Bishop of Columbus; and two grandchildren, Samuel Bishop and Sydney Bishop.

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA 31907, with the family receiving friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Wynnton Room, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA 31907.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbus Hospice in her memory.
