Memorial Services will be held at Gentian Baptist Church, 3853 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA on July 19, 2019 at 11:00 am with Jeremy Lockhart officiating.
Marvin O. Aldrich was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 25, 1934 to Desmond and Elsie Aldrich. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956-1959. Worked at the Columbus Iron Works for a short time, then started his career at Ft. Benning, GA as a civilian Machinist/Tool and Die Maker. Later, joining the Custom Firearms Shop in 1967. In 1969, at the National Match Small Arms School, Rock Island, IL, he graduated first in both his Rifle and Pistol classes. During his 36 years of service at the United Stated Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), Mr. Aldrich earned great respect through his many contributions as a civilian Machinist and Gunsmith. He fit and chambered most USAMU rifle barrels until his retirement in March, 2000, helped countless shooters reach their maximum potential and win at all levels of competition. He’s legacies of precision, skill and perfectionism still live on; many of his procedures remain in use at the USAMU today.
Marvin O. Aldrich is known for his innovation. He designed and manufactured several rifle scope mounts, an AK-47 accuracy test fixture, the first grip scope mount for the 1911 pistols, and the USAMU’s first ever match grade M-14 barrel, machined from a blank to the issue barrel’s contours. His “Marvin triggers” (Anschutz triggers adapted to Winchester/Remington center-fire rifles) have remained in use for decades.
Marvin was a member of Gentian Baptist Church of Columbus, GA. He was involved in the many activities of their Senior Saints which included weekly bowling and out-of-town trips.
Marvin O. Aldrich is proceeded in death by his wife of 54 years, Beverly Aldrich. He is survived by his step-son, Richard F. & Carol Steward of Holly, MI, step-daughter, Teresa L. Hicks of Iola, TX, step-son, Bryan & Barbara Steward of Columbus, GA, son, Jeffrey & Linda Aldrich of Columbus, GA, son, Tracy & Angela Aldrich, of Gloversville, NY, and son, Steven Aldrich of Columbus, GA, seventeen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Marvin O. Aldrich is also survived by brothers, Frank Aldrich and David Aldrich, and sisters, Ellen Aldrich Kuck and Virginia Sandvig-Knepp and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Proceeded in death by Father & Mother, Desmond & Elsie Aldrich, Brothers: Gordon Aldrich and Leslie Aldrich, Sisters: Erma Jeanne Eichhorn, and Mary Carol Aldrich.
