Mary Cecelia Hamby

Daughter of Gladys Francis Wilson and John Henry Wilson of Columbus, GA, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Edward James Hamby and child, Bonnie Carolyn Hamby, and sister, Hilda Maxie Elliott.

Mama was an accomplished cook and homemaker and the focal point of her family. She loved orchids and gardening and was especially proud of her blueberries and figs. Her Blueberry Crisp and Fig Preserves were family favorites. Everyone who met Mama loved her instantly. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children Sharon Hamby Davlin (Milton), Michael Hamby (Connie), and Kathy Hamby Hines (David), all of Columbus.

She was the loving Grandmother of six grandchildren--Edward Lindley,Jr. (Stephanie), Scott Hamby (Malin), John Christopher (Mistie), Michaela Hamby, Shay Hamby and Sophie Hamby; eleven great grandchildren--Zoe, Amanda, William, Jack, Cailey, Arrianna, Scotty, Ethan, John, Pasiley and Hazel; sister, Barbara Wilson Whitley and loving nieces, Joanie Whitley and Jeanie Elliot.

A special thanks to Columbus Hospice--Kristie, Linda, Mario and Christina, also to her loving care giver, Janita.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:00am in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, and interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00am.
