Mary Alice Mendenhall, 97, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 with a visitation one hour prior, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Mrs. Mendenhall will be laid to rest at Parkhill Cemetery.
She was born in Phenix City, Alabama on July 18, 1924. Mary Alice graduated from Jordan Vocational High School and began her career in banking a week after graduation. She worked at Columbus Bank and Trust Company for 40 years until she retired in 1983. Mary Alice married the love of her life John Robert Mendenhall, on February 15, 1948. She had a passion for Christian Missionary work, children’s work and reading. She was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church in Columbus. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two sisters, Kathryn and Doris Randall.
Those left to cherish Mary Alice’s memories are her two children, Veda Mendenhall Evans (Marty) of Enid, MS, John Robert Mendenhall, II (Linda) of Newnan, GA; 6 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
