Mildred Martha “Milly” Holmes, age 66, of Salem, Alabama passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. A visitation for the family & friends of Milly will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A celebration of Milly's life will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Milly was born February 7, 1955 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina; the daughter of Edwin George Mury and Rosemarie Elsa Gahn Mury. Her father was in the military and they moved often, they were here long enough for Milly to graduate from high school in Columbus. She put herself through CVCC to earn an Associate’s Degree and went straight into nursing. She spent most of her nursing career at E.A.M.C. During these years she had married and was starting her family, Milly had married Karl Bolich who passed in 1979 and after his passing she met and married William "Billy" McConnell until his passing in 1998. Through a dear friend of hers she was introduced to Larry T. Holmes in 2000, they were married in 2002.
Milly lived her life to the fullest, always going and doing, she was always willing to try anything once and if family was involved, it only made her adventures that much better. She taught her family many things through the years, including the importance of being kind to others, to NEVER GIVE UP, and to be willing to fight for what you want and believe in. Milly was loving and kind and yet, she was stubborn, she kept moving and working until she got what she wanted. She had a wonderful sense of humor, she would laugh at anything including JD’s Christmas presents. The only thing that slowed her down was cancer. What she LOVED the most was her family and the time she spent with them, watching everyone swim, going fishing with them, camping, and playing in the snow. Milly would like to remind everyone especially her family, to remember just how much she loved them and that you really should all be fighters just like her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Rosemarie Mury, and two previous husbands Karl Bolich (1979) and William "Billy" McConnell (1998).
Survivors include: her husband, Larry T. Holmes; a daughter, Tonya Simmons (son-in-law James D Reser); a son, Edwin "Guylo" Bolich (daughter-in-law Crystal Bolich); her grandchildren, Erica Carter aka “Tink”, Matthew Simmons aka “Webit”, Kelsey Bolich aka “Kelsey-poo”, Abbygail Bolich aka “Abba-lu”; a great grandchild, Eli aka “My Eli”; two brothers, Harald (Glenda) Mury Selma N.C., Timothy (Cora) Mury of Columbus, GA.
