On June 2,1925, to a simple farm family living in Elba, Alabama, to Parents George Washington Holland and Peggy Ann (Moulton) Holland was born their first child, Nellie Ruth Holland. Over the next few years seven siblings, (3 boys & 4 girls) would be added to her family.
As Nellie grew to her pre and early teen years, the Leverett family of Crawford, Alabama, would stop by the family home to share some encouraging scriptures and leave some Bible literature for them to read. Nellie particularly enjoyed the visits from two of the Leverett girls, Mollie and Myrtle. Thus were planted in Nellies’s heart , small seeds of truth that would sprout and grow over time.
In her mid teens, after moving to Columbus, Ga. , and taking a job in the Bibb Mill, Nellie met and married Eldridge Eudell Dawson. A daughter, Dickie Anne and a son James E. (Eddie) were born to them. After a subsequent divorce and then marriage to Roy Faulk, four more children were added, Gary Thomas, Jo Lynn, Roy Levon and Andrew Lamar.
During this time Merl and Ed Jacobs met and began studying The Bible with Nellie and her two oldest children. On June 9, 1951 she was baptized in water making her private dedication public to all onlookers, thus becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She steadfastly remained loyal to her God and Father into her death.
Many will remember her for her big heart, generosity and willingness to assist anyone in need. Those from her congregation , River Road, (Columbus, Ga.) formerly known as Beallwood, may still picture her dressed just so and bejewelled, sitting in the center of the middle section of seats, second to third row, ready to welcome all who came to her, whether young, old or anywhere in between.
Mom is now sleeping the best sleep of her life, awaiting the best awakening anyone could possibly experience when she is called up to life in the New World to a paradise earth She may enjoy forever!
