Nellie H. Spano, 99 years old, of Columbus, GA., passed away January 11, 2019. Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery at 11 o’clock on Monday, January 14, 2019 with Father Frank Patterson of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Family will receive friends immediately after the graveside service.
Mrs. Spano was born in Cuthbert, GA. on April 9, 1919 to the late Fred Roy Hatchell and Archie Belle Hewitt. She was a graduate of The City Hospital Nursing School in 1941. Mrs. Spano worked at Saint Francis Hospital as a nurse and retired in 1986 after twenty-eight years of dedicated service. She was preceded in death by Barto Spano, her devoted husband of fifty-nine years.
Survivors include her children, Barbara S. Cooke of Columbus, GA. and Ricky Spano (Vicki) of Midland, GA.; grandchildren, Brad Cooke (Dana), Bart Cooke (Harmony), Marcus Spano (Cynthia) and Sunday Sanders (Eddie); six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the Grove Terrace Staff at Orchard View Nursing Facility for their compassionate care. Also, a very special thank you to Debbie Garner, Tracy Lias and Youlanda Short from Columbus Hospice for outstanding concern and devotion shown to Mrs. Spano.
