Parley Devril Thorne

Parley Devril Thorne, age 76, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Columbus Hospice House. Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL at 2:30 PM EST, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA.

Mr. Thorne was born on July 6, 1934 in Wendell, Idaho to the late Lee Thorne and Ida Mae Byington Thorne. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Thorne was a loving and kind father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be missed by everyone. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Thorne and a grandson, James David Thorne.

Survivors include his five children, Dennis D. Thorne (Lisa) of Waverly Hall, GA, Marilyn Keeney (Rufus) of Ansted, WV, Jo Carol Cooper (Jay) of Columbus, GA, Kelly K. Thorne of Columbus, GA and Timothy Scott Thorne of Buena Vista, GA; nine grandchildren, Shannon N. Thorne, Jarrod M. Thorne, Adam Cooper (Kelly), Blake Cooper (Leslie), Brandon Mullins, Drema Keeney, Michael Thorne, Meagan Thorne and Ashley C. Thorne; two great-grandchildren, Christian Blaine Thorne and Brendon James Thorne; two sisters, Naomi Myers and Bertha Stricker and three brothers, Dale Thorne, Ronnie Thorne (Kay) and LaVone Thorne (Charlotte).
