MAJ (Ret) Richard Glen Hagan, age 80, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was born in Salida, Colorado to the late Verna Phyllis Romero Hagan and Lester Benjamin Hagan. He graduated from the University of Colorado, which he was most proud of. Then he faithfully served his country in the United States Army where he became an Airborne Ranger, serving in the Vietnam War. Major Richard Hagan retired from the Army settling in the Columbus area with his wife, Ellen, and family. He was the former Vice President of United Way which donated to many causes. He was one of the founding members of the National Infantry Museum alongside Major General Jerry White, He was passionate about serving and caring for his community. Richard enjoyed spending time with family and friends talking about life and sharing a good joke.
Richard was Christian by faith and it showed in his love, kindness, and discipline. He was a strong, proud man of service to God, his country, and his family. This was shown through his character, compassion, and service. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Verna Hagan
Richard is survived by his loving wife Ellen Hagan; his sons: Richard Hagan Jr., and Benjamin Hagan, Daughters Kaitlin Hagan, Shannon Hagan, Laura Hagan, and Michelle Hagan-Gath.
A Visitation for the Family and Friends for Richard will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:20 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11:30 AM.
