
Alabama, Phenix City - Robert “Bob” Beaty, 85, passed away December 28, 2009 at the Greenhouse at Calvary. A Celebration of a life in ministry will be held on Wednesday, December 30 at Edgewood Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Howle officiating. The family will receive guests and friends at Striffler - Hamby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29. Rev. Beaty was born in Memphis, TN to John Allen and Mattie Beaty. His older brother, Jack, was the first casualty of World War II from Memphis, TN. His surviving sister, Joy, is a resident of Clairmont, California. Rev. Beaty received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Memphis, his master’s of education degree from Columbia University, Bachelor of Divinity and Master’s degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in the armed forces from 1942 till 1949 at the rank of Lieutenant as a navy pilot. Rev. Beaty served as a missionary with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for 29 years in the countries of Zimbabwe and Boputhatswana, and also conducted numerous Christian conferences around the world. Rev. Beaty is survived by his wife of 59 years, Thelma Katherine Beaty, and four sons, Jack Beaty and wife, Lucilita of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. David Beaty and wife, Pam of Durban, South Africa, Dr. Stephen Beaty and wife, Jane of Columbus, Georgia, and Timothy Beaty and wife, Miriam of Brisbane, Australia. He had seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering through Edgewood Baptist Church.
