Columbus, GA- SGM (Ret.) Robert J. McIntyre of Columbus, GA, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014, in the watchful care of Columbus Hospice. Robert was born August 7, 1924, in Wilkinsburg, PA, to the late Raymond and Blanch Boone McIntyre.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 9, 2014 4:00-6:00 pm in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler- Hamby. A Celebration of Life service will be Friday, January 10, 2014 2:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd Columbus, GA, followed by full military honors at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon, Rd. Columbus, GA, with Rev. David Lix officiating.
Along with his parents SGM (Ret) McIntyre was preceded in death by his 1st wife; Elizabeth (Jean) McIntyre of Columbus, GA, his son; James Rodney McIntyre of Columbus, GA, three brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years; Betty Jean McIntyre of Columbus, GA, and his daughter; Susan Janice (Bob) Gaughan of Philadelphia, PA, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
SGM Robert J. McIntyre retired from the United States Army after 24 years of service to his country, serving in WWII and the Viet Nam Conflict. He then began a new career at the United States Post Office serving 20 years until his 2nd retirement. Not wanting to rest too long, Robert took another "combat" assignment working for the Muscogee County School District as a bus driver where he retired for the 3rd time. Robert was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church. He loved both his family and his church family, and will be missed by all.
