Columbus, Georgia- Robert G. Steed (Gordon), age 79, of West Point, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013. Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Kenneth Grubbs officiating. Visitation with a catered reception will be held prior to the service from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Striffler- Hamby in Columbus, Georgia.
Mr. Steed was born in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Robert Lee Steed and Lillian Shanks Scrimpshire, but raised by his grandparents, the late Gordon and Fronnie Shanks. Mr. Steed graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. After high school, Mr. Steed enlisted in the Navy from 1952-1956 and served in the Korean conflict. Once he was out of the Navy, Mr. Steed was an Independent Electrician by trait most of his life. One of his greatest accomplishments was being married 56 years to his wife, Inez Steed. He was an avid fisherman, Catfish was his favorite and Baptist by faith.
Mr. Steed was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one brother; Gary Scrimpshire. He leaves behind a loving wife, Ms. Inez Steed. Daughter; Debbie(Larry) Nommensen, granddaughter; April (Josh)Cope, grandson; Matthew Nommensen, great granddaughter; Kaylee Anne Cope, Sister; Gail Szczepanski, a nephew and several cousins.
