Roger W. Clowdus, age 89, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on August 12, 2018. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 9:30 until 10:30 am at Striffler – Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, and his Funeral Service being held Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11:00 am, at Parkhill Cemetery in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum.
Roger was born in Greenwood, South Carolina on September 22, 1928; the son of Roger William Clowdus and Estelle Harter Clowdus. Roger moved to Columbus shortly after graduating High School. He began dating and then married Barbara Adams and together they had a daughter, Terri. Roger never met a stranger, being able to freely have a conversation with anyone he met. Including a conversation with Jeanelle Tyson Wright, this led to a relationship and their marriage in 2001. He retired from Tom Houston Foods after over 21 years of service as a long distance driver. During this time Roger was a member of many civic groups including The Order of the Amaranth, Order of the Eastern Star, Shriners, Scottish Rite and he was a Mason for 56 years, most recently being a member of the Mt. Hermon and Midland Lodges. He enjoyed cooking for his fellow brothers through the years, at pancake breakfasts, chicken BBQ’s or his Roast Beef, whose recipe was desired by many.
Roger is preceded in death by a son, Roger Dwight Clowdus. Survivors include; his wife Jeanelle; his daughter Terri C. Goodwin; a grandson Ryan Goodwin; a granddaughter Kristina Singletary; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Nina Corsey and Ann Kelley; a very special friend who Roger felt was much more like a son, John Ohrt; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family members to cherish his memory.
