Mr. Waller was born in Hapeville, Georgia on December 8, 1926, but spent most of his life in nearby Jonesboro. At the age of 18 he joined the Army, serving in the Philippines during World War II. He rose to the rank of Technician Fourth Grade, receiving an honorable discharge shortly after his 20th birthday.
Roy was a gifted mechanic specializing in engine repair on tanker trucks. He was a lead mechanic for Standard Oil Company in Atlanta which later became Chevron. He spent a long and successful career with Chevron before retiring in 1986 after 31 years of service.
Mr. Waller married Mattie Ree Miller on September 27, 1947. They were married 69 years. They were blessed with three daughters. Mrs. Waller was called home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2016.
Following her death, Roy moved to Columbus, Georgia to live with his daughter and son-in-law. He attended Evangel Temple Assembly of God and was a member of the Joint Heirs Sunday school class. At the time of his death he was living at The Oaks at Grove Park.
Besides his wife, Mr. Waller was preceded in death by his parents, William Archer and Fannie Byrd Waller; four brothers, Harold Waller, Glenn Waller, Louie Waller, and Raymond Waller; and one sister, Miriam Jackson.
Survivors include his children: Judy Scoggins and her husband, Phil, of Columbus, Georgia; Jane White and her husband, Toby, of Morrow, Georgia; and Suzan Parden and her husband, David, of Jonesboro, Georgia.
Mr. Waller is also survived by 14 grandchildren: India Jones (Matt),Scott Scoggins (Libbi), Andrea Giammona (David), Ben White (Lauren), Rebekah Summers (Lee), Britany Parden, Ashley Parden, Adrienne McDaniel (Zack), Katie Belle Glendye (Adam), Hannah Pope (Lance), Mckinzie Parden, Spencer Parden, and Taylor Parden.
Mr. Waller’s other survivors include 11 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the special caregivers who ministered to Mr. Waller during the final months of his life.
