
Born March 26, 1922, she was a fifth generation resident of Columbus. Her great great grandparents were pioneer citizens. Her parents were Benjamin Hurt Hardaway, Jr. and Louise Buttolph Hardaway.
Mrs. Hughston grew up in Columbus, GA and Hardaway, FL. She attended Columbus High School and Ogontz finishing school and junior college in Pennsylvania. She lived with her parents at Hardaway Hall until her marriage to medical student Jack Hughston on June 13, 1942.
Mrs. Hughston played an instrumental role in Dr. Hughston's success within his profession of sports medicine, including the founding of his own clinic in 1949 and the Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital in 1984. Mrs. Hughston acted as a mentor and gracious hostess to the many doctors and their families who came to Columbus from around the world to train with Dr. Hughston.
She was also involved with civic duties in Columbus and was Honored Lady at the Historic Columbus Foundation Heritage Ball.
Mrs. Hughston enjoyed traveling to her family's beach house in Jacksonville, FL and to all corners of the globe with her husband. When at home she enjoyed horseback riding and long walks with her family and many dogs on her beloved Hay Fields Farm in Cataula, GA. She also loved parties and dancing.
Mrs Hughston is survived by her sons Chandler Hughston and Edgar Huhston, and Edgar's wife Ann Hughston. She has three grandchildren: Sally Bickerstaff and her husband Brad; Jack Hughston and his wife Suzanne; and Sarah O'Kelley and her partner Jeff Hoekman. She has four great-grandchildren Sarah Hughston, Jack Hughston, Lee Hughston, and Reed Bickerstaff.
