Sarah Richards

Sarah Cecelia Richards, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026 in Columbus, Georgia. She was born on August 17, 1951 in Hampton, Virginia. She lived a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon Dale Moffitt, whom she met while working as a truck driver for North American—a story she loved to tell. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Dwight Thomas, and her siblings Ralph “Joe” Thomas, Dora Slaton, and Pat Thomas.

She also leaves behind a family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She is survived by her siblings: Wayne Thomas; Kathy Proper and her husband, Richard Proper; and David Thomas and his wife, Ann Thomas. Her daughter, Mary Miller; her cherished granddaughters, Sarah Miller and Katelynn Miller, who lovingly called her “Nanna”; her granddaughter-in-law, Bethany Walton; and her great-grandson, Percy Miller.

Sarah was truly one of a kind. She spoke her mind without hesitation and carried a fiery spirit that made her unforgettable—a true spitfire in every sense of the word. She was the life of the party, happiest when surrounded by family, sharing stories that could make anyone laugh until they cried. Her laugh was contagious, her smile unforgettable, and her presence filled every room with warmth.

She had a gift for cooking and showed her love through every meal she made—no one ever left her home hungry. Though she could be stubborn, it was always matched by a heart overflowing with love and a deep devotion to those she cared about.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her close friends, David, Tim, and Jerry, whose companionship, care, and support meant so much to Sarah. Their presence in her life was deeply appreciated.

Sarah’s legacy is one of strength, humor, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed, but the stories she told, the meals she shared, and the joy she brought into the world will live on through her family for generations to come.
