
Beginning at the age of 18, Shirley focused her unending effort and energy on happily fulfilling the duties of an Air Force Officer’s wife. She was known by life-long friends and family for her good conversation, positive attitude, thoughtfulness, feistiness, and good health. Shirley enjoyed playing Bridge with various local groups and friends, gardening, and cooking. She took great pride in making sure guests in her home were comfortable, entertained, and well fed.
Shirley P. Randall, daughter of the late Loring Platt and Elizabeth Metz Platt, was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 22, 1924. After growing up in the Chicago area, she met and married her first love, Douglas Mitchell Milligan, at the young age of 18, thus beginning her life as an Air Force wife and mother. Due to an accident while flight training on Thanksgiving Day in 1943, Shirley lost her first husband but subsequently met her other life-long true love, Wilmer Ammons Randall. They were married on January 18, 1945 and were happily married for 62 years.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Douglas Milligan and Wilmer Ammons Randall, her daughter, Kathleen Dunn, and her two sisters Patricia Nowell and Margaret P. Tilley. She is survived by her two grandchildren, Randall J. Casleton and Tyler C. Martin, daughter-in-law Kimberly M. Casleton, son-in-law Craig A. Martin, four great grandchildren, Shannon K. Casleton, Mitchell D. Casleton, Madison A. Martin, and James (Andrew) Martin, two nephews, Loring W. Tilley and Andrew Nowell, and niece Elizabeth Dorn.
Shirley touched the lives of every friend and family member is some special way. Her clear voice and uplifting laugh will forever resonate in the hearts of all those who knew her. A mass celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 am on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Columbus, Georgia.
