Shirley Sheldon Whitton

Shirley (Sheldon) Whitton, age 70, of Midland, Georgia passed away on September 4, 2021. A visitation of family and friends for Shirley will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Interment will be in Parkhill Cemetery.

Shirley was born May 25, 1951 in Akron, Ohio; the daughter of Eugene Leeroy Sheldon and Delores Elaine Klepper Sheldon. Her father was a Baptist minister so they lived in many states. Shirley married Kenneth Carl Whitton on May 5, 1972 and they raised their family in the Midland area. Shirley was a loving and caring person. She worked as a paraprofessional at Mathews Elementary School for 27 years. She felt her greatest accomplishment at work was being able to teach and nurture children with special needs. Shirley realized the importance of education and felt she was blessed to be able watch her children graduate from High School and College. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, she found great joy and satisfaction in making a beautiful quilt, outfit, or mending “a favorite item” to make it last a little longer. She also loved travelling especially with her husband, Kenny, while he was employed at Centennial. She was able to travel with him throughout the U.S. However what Shirley truly loved was her family and the time they spent together.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Kenneth Carl Whitton Sr.; a son, Kenneth Carl Whitton, Jr.; and her parents.

Survivors include: daughters, Melissa Whitton and Debra Whitton; a granddaughter; a brother, Pete (Natacha) Sheldon.
