He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a two year mission in Denmark. He was a Bishop, High Counselor, Temple Recorder, Seminary Teacher, and Senior Missionary. He loved serving in the temple and helping missionaries. His involvement in the church was grand and as unwavering as his faith.

He taught his family what it meant to work hard and how to take pride in doing what they needed to do. Each of his children and many of his grandchildren can recall working with him at the family restaurant; he showed them that work could be done with love, and purpose could bless both family and community.
In his free time, he loved cooking, fishing, taking cat naps, gardening, and his chickens. He was on the golf team in high school, surfing team, and he was a quartermaster in the Sea Scouts. He loved to laugh and keep things light-hearted, corny jokes were his specialty, and he enjoyed sharing them with anyone who would listen. Hearing stories about his grandchildren made his day because they always brought out the biggest smiles and he best laughs.
Don loved deeply, his family and the gospel of Jesus Christ were the receivers of that love. He found great joy helping others, serving in the temple, and giving through quiet acts of kindness. Cooking was one of his favorite ways to show love. His life was a pure reflection of his faith, love, and service.
