Tom graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor's degree in Business. He was an avid golfer and football fan, his favorite team being the University of Georgia Bulldogs. His enthusiasm for the game and unwavering loyalty to his team were well known among family and friends.
He enjoyed a successful career as an accountant at Georgia Power Company, where he worked with dedication and integrity for many years. His colleagues remembered him as a reliable and committed professional who took pride in his work.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Vinson (Ragland) Matthews, and he is survived by his children and their spouses: Jeffrey Scott Matthews; Chad Thomas Matthews and wife Amanda; Alice Ragland Fry and husband Chip Fry; and Jason Ragland. He was a devoted grandfather to Drake Matthews, Elizabeth Matthews, Jack Fry, and Olivia Fry, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Tom is also survived by his sister, Jane Matthews Bolton and her husband Roger Bolton, his nieces Julie and Karen, and his nephew David, as well as their spouses and children.
A memorial visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The family welcomes friends to join them in celebrating Tom's life and honoring his memory.
Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness and humor will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
