Twyla Pifer Dudley

Twyla Pifer Dudley, age 89, resident of Columbus, died on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled at Trinity Episcopal Church on Thursday, February 19, 2015, 11 a.m. with The Reverend Tim Graham officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery

1 p.m. The family will receive friends at her son’s residence, 1201 Front Avenue, Apt 422, Columbus on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

Mrs. Dudley, daughter of the late LeRoy Chauncey Pifer and Bertha Caroline Leininger Pifer, was born August 23, 1925 in Chattanooga, Ohio. She was a graduate of Willshire High School, Willshire, Ohio and later graduated from Ohio State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Mrs. Dudley worked as a journalist for the Van Wert (Ohio) Times-Bulletin, the Farm Journal magazine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Hi Way Presbyterian teen magazine, also of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After marrying and moving to Columbus, she volunteered with several organizations within the Columbus area, including Trinity Episcopal Church, The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Brookstone School, and the Muscogee County Medical Auxiliary. Mrs. Dudley was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and also the Junto Study Club.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Donna Pifer, Ruby Pifer, Beatrice Pifer, and Glenda Pifer; and one brother, Gerald Pifer. Mrs. Dudley is survived by her husband, Dr. Augustus B. Dudley, Jr. of Columbus; daughter, Elizabeth Dudley Graham and her husband Mark of Columbus; son, James Lawrence Dudley and his wife Carmen of Columbus; two sisters, Marjorie Maxine Pifer of St. Marys, Ohio and Verna Behm of Celina, Ohio; four grandchildren, James Graham, Dudley Graham, Augusta Graham, and Michael Dudley, all of Columbus; and several nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1130 1st Avenue, Columbus, Georgia 31901 or to a favorite charity.
