Vernell Davis Smith September 27th, 1921 - October 11th, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Vernell Davis Smith, affectionately known as "Granny" went to be with the Lord on October 11th, 2010. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 14th at 11:00 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. 31907 with Reverend Dennis Lacy, Reverend Eugene Forehand and Reverend Robert French officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was born September 27th, 1921 in Esto, Florida to the late Jeff E. Davis and Hester Ward Davis. She was married to the late Curtis H. Smith and was a member of North Highland Church. Mrs. Smith is survived by her brother Mitchell Davis of Graceville, Florida; sisters Dorothy Balkcom of Panama City, Florida; Lila Webb of Phenix City, AL and Kathleen Sawyer of Columbus, Ga. She has one daughter; Frances Connally (Jimmy) of Columbus, GA and one son, David Smith (Claudia) of Columbus, GA. Mrs. Smith has three grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a multitude of friends. The family is accepting flowers or encouraging donations to a charity of your choice in her memory.
