

Columbus, Georgia - Dick McMichael, a beloved and highly respected television news anchor who left an indelible mark on the broadcasting landscape of middle Georgia, peacefully passed away at the Columbus Hospice House on January 31, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born in 1930 to Elbert McMichael and Sara Etheridge, Dick began his illustrious career in radio before making a transition to television, where he quickly became a fixture in the Columbus community. He served with distinction at both WRBL and WTVM, anchoring the evening news for many years. Dick's approach to journalism was characterized by his integrity, dedication, and a deep connection to the local community.
He loved ballroom dancing, sailing, cinema and the theatre having acted in several productions at the Springer Opera House. He is survived by his son, William Richard (Rick) McMichael, Jr. and wife, Marian; grandsons Christopher McMichael (wife Kristin) and Benjamin McMichael; great grandsons Gabriel McMichael and Ronan McMichael; step-sons Ken Champion (wife Katrina), Richard Champion, Doug Champion and Mickey Champion; step grandchildren Caitlin Champion, Shannon Champion and Andrew Champion.
His legacy will live on through the many journalists he inspired and the community that he informed and engaged every evening. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 1:00PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Columbus, Georgia.
