Carol D. Buckler, 76, of Columbus, passed from this life at 8:32 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2015, after being lovingly cared for the last three weeks of her life at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Carol was born December 24, 1938, in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Robert E. and Martha M. Barnaby. She was in the first graduating class of Columbus High School in 1957. Carol was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Columbus, Indiana.
Carol met Robert D. Buckler at Indiana Gas Company, married July 15, 1967 and shared life together for 47 years. She was once selected as a princess on the Indiana Gas Company float in the Indy 500 Race Parade. She enjoyed playing piano, ceramics, knitting and the outdoors with her husband and family.
She was a stewardess for Lake Central Air Lines in the early days of air travel. She worked as Accounts Payable Clerk at Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. But, Carol’s true passion was working with elementary students as Teacher Assistant at BCSC and Flatrock-Hawcreek School Corporation.
Carol was a deeply loved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love for her husband, daughter and grandchildren knew no bounds. She is sorely missed by those she left behind after bravely battling various illnesses for some 20 years. Carol wished to be cremated and the ashes of her beloved Dachshund Annie be buried with her.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2015, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2651 California Street, Columbus, Indiana, by Fr. Marc Vance. Private burial will be at Norristown Cemetery in Shelby County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association or American Diabetes Association.
Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Buckler and her daughter, Anastasia L. (Stacy) Buckler both of Columbus, IN.; four grandchildren, Brittani M. Smith (husband Nathan) of Provo, Utah and Blake A. Mayer, Hayden M. Mayer, and Gwyneth P. Ho all of Columbus, IN.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. Barnaby and Martha M. Barnaby; her sister, Mary Ann Morford; and her brother, Robert M. Barnaby.
