He was born June 23, 1943 in Columbus, IN, the son of the late Carl H. and Charlotte (Bolte) Kiel. David graduated from Columbus High School and Ringling College of Art & Design. He became an accomplished and sought after Interior Designer and opened Kiel Interiors. In mid-life he set his sights on the Real Estate industry, obtaining his Broker’s license and becoming co-owner, and then sole owner of Coldwell Banker TLC Properties. TLC Properties was the exclusive marketing company for Tipton Lakes, and David became an integral part of the development of the Tipton Lakes community; not only as a Real Estate Broker, but as a developer and custom home builder. Some of his developments include Northfield, Pintail Point, The Preserve, and Greystone. He was also very active in his community, serving as the President of the Columbus Visitor’s Center, participating in the design & building committee for St Bartholomew Church, and serving on the local Board of Realtors.
The most important things in David’s life were his family, boating, and his dogs Bear, Gus, and Oliver. He also loved blowing leaves, his North Face coat, and Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant.
He married Dee Anna, the love of his life, in 1966, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter Chris Kiel of Chicago, IL, his son, John & his wife Amy Kiel of Columbus; grandsons, Henry Kiel of Evansville, IN, and William Kiel of Phoenix, AZ, and siblings Ted (Diane) Kiel of Ketchum, Idaho, Kathy Lubker of South Bend, IN, and Marshall (Suzy) Kiel of St. Louis, MO.
Per David’s wishes he will be cremated and a memorial mass will be held at 10 AM, Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis as celebrant. A luncheon will follow in the lower level of the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or St Bartholomew Catholic Church.
