Donald E. Carmichael

Born in Blairsburg, IA, September 10, 1920, Don was the son of John M. and Elizabeth E. Gates Carmichael.

He married Corinne K. Test on April 26, 1947. She preceded him in death on November 8, 1996.

Don was a 1938 graduate of Columbus High School and retired in 1985 from Golden Foundry, where he worked for 38 years. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran and a noted gardener, keeping family and friends in vegetables throughout the summer. He also loved golf and fishing and was very passionate about IU, the Reds and the Colts.

The funeral service for Don will be conducted Monday , March 5, 2012, at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Rev. Greg Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Survivors include a son, John C. (Sandy) Carmichael, and a daughter, Jane E. Carmichael, both of Columbus; a brother, Keith Carmichael of Auburn, AL; sisters, Maxine Pfeiffer of Columbus and Shirley Nicholson of Venice, FL; grandchildren, Stacey (Will) Horn of Columbus and Brandon (Leanne) Anderson of Cypress, CA; and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Cooper, and Anderson Horn, and Bailey, Landon and Logan Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale Carmichael, Avery Carmichael, Gene Carmichael and Lyle Carmichael; and sisters, Dorothy Reiss, Lucile Leas, Ruth Deaver and LuVena Higgins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone at Hospice for providing such loving care to Don during his illness.
