Obituary of Gerald "Jerry" Louis Hinderliter
Gerald “Jerry” Louis Hinderliter, 79, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Jerry was born June 21, 1944 at home in Vincennes, Indiana to Wayne and Nellie Thompson Hinderliter. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1962, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in Giebelstadt, Germany and Oscoda, Michigan. On March 19, 1963 he married Karen Keeling and they enjoyed his service destinations together. He worked at Indiana Bell Telephone Company, Vernco/Ventra, and Columbus Regional Hospital. Jerry had many interests including fishing, wood working, photography, playing golf, and bowling and was on the church league for several years. He enjoyed traveling to Florida, California, and Michigan to visit family and friends. He had a special love for the family dogs and now is greatly missed by Sky. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he was an usher for over 40 years, and worked their annual Smorgasbord several times. Jerry was also a Junior Acheivement Advisor, as well as a member of the Optimist Club where he enjoyed working on their food van at events. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen; and two daughters, Amy Lorraine Hinderliter and Alisha Joy Schonfeld; a granddaughter, Emily England; and four great-grandchildren, Kyndal Willard, and Avery, Madelynne, and Colton England. A funeral service for Jerry will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 1 p.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard. Friends may gather for visitation on Monday, May 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial donations in his name may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
