
Jim was born in Columbus on February 21, 1949. Jim passed away peacefully at home in Columbus on August 5, 2013. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School, where he was an active Boy Scout. He graduated from Columbus Senior High School in 1967 and was a member of the swim team. He attended Indiana State University for several years. He also worked for the family plumbing company. Jim loved working on and riding motorcycles, especially Harleys.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lois (nee Schwartzkopf) He is survived by three brothers John (Janet) of Colorado Springs, Jerry of Ann Arbor, and Joe (Lisa) of Columbus. He is survived by his Uncle Roy (Marilyn) Schwartzkopf of Columbus. He is survived by cousins Steve Fushelberger, Beth Middendorf , and Bob Schwartzkopf all of Columbus. He is also survived by 19 additional uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation at 9 AM followed by a memorial service at 10 will be Monday August 12 at Hathaway~Myers Chapel on Pearl Street in Columbus. The service will be presided over by his Uncle the Reverend Paul K. Schwartzkopf.
Jim suffered from a debilitating mental illness for his entire adult life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness or St. Peters Lutheran Church in Columbus.
