Larry E. Sonnefeld, 82, passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Larry was born January 11, 1941 in Muskegon, Michigan. He was the son of Rolly and Geneva Sonnefeld.
He graduated from Columbus High School. He joined the United States Air Force after high school where he served in the Vietnam War and the Philippines. He served in the Air Force from 1963-1969. After his service he graduated from DeVry Institute of Technology as a TV and radio technician. He worked and retired from Indiana Bell in Bloomington, Indiana.
When Larry was younger, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved working outdoors on the family farm. He was an excellent gardener, often giving many items away from his garden. He enjoyed genealogy and researching past family history. He loved his family and helping others.
Larry will be known for his loving and giving heart. He cherished time with his family, especially his sister.
Larry is survived by his sister, Sonnie Brock; nephew, Shawn Brock; niece, Shannon (Jon) Truman; great-nieces and nephews, Kortney (Austin) Fowler, Kami Rae, Elayna Brock, Michael Brock, Orin Brock, Layla (Jacob) Blackburn, and Ashley Truman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Michael Brock; and great-nephew, Jacob Matthew.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to service time Friday. Burial will follow, with military rites by The Bartholomew County Veteran’s Honor Guard, at Garland Brook Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com.
