Patrick Martin Rust died of heart failure Wednesday, August 1 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 58 years old. Born May 27, 1960, in Columbus, Ind., Pat was the youngest of six children born to Philip C. Rust Jr., and Joan Ellen McAdams. He attended St. Bartholomew Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Columbus North High School in 1978. He received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University in 1982. Pat was a lifelong lover of music, art, reading and sports. He learned to play golf with his brothers at Harrison Lake Country Club and was a member of the North golf team in high school. He shaved his head in support of the I. U. men’s championship basketball team in 1981. He thrived on creating pools for March Madness or just about any other sports competition. Early in his career, Pat was employed by the Golf Club of Indiana and the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass. A move to Chicago took him to the Chicago Board of Trade, where he was employed by LFG/Refco Futures and Barnes & Co./Argus for a total of 22 years. He grew to love the City of Chicago and became a big fan of the Cubs, the Bears and the Bulls. In the final years of his life, he served as a caddie at Pablo Creek Golf Club in Jacksonville. Pat was preceded in death by an infant sister Susan, his parents and his nephew Lt. Cmdr. John McAdams Baker. He is survived by his brothers, Philip C. Rust III (Shirley), of Indianapolis; John Edward Rust of Fishers, Ind.; Thomas Enright Rust (Debbie) of Jacksonville; sister Barbara Rust Brown (Jack) of Williamsburg, Va.; nieces and nephews Christi Rust Crimmins, Michelle Rust Chastain, Brian Rust, Matt Rust, Jackson Rust, Nick Rust, Ashley Rust Chamberlain and Joan Baker; 18 great nieces and nephews; two newly discovered first cousins and countless friends, classmates and colleagues.
