Stephen Wright Walters

Stephen Wright Walters, age 84, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Stephen was born March 19, 1939 in Columbus, Indiana. He was the son of Jack R. and Rose Ada Walters.

He married Judith Romine on June 28, 1959 and she survives. Stephen worked as a test foreman for Cummins Engine Company for 32 years before retiring. He was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 20, and the Bartholomew County Shrine Club.

Stephen loved to do anything outdoors. He enjoyed boating, camping, boat races, fishing, and four wheeling. He also loved Antique Tractors, NASCAR, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judith Walters; son, Randall D. (Trish) Walters; grandchildren, Megan Rice, Levi Walters, Amanda and Tommy Sullivan, Gracie Hughes; and Shannon and Sharon Walters; great-grandchildren, Alexis Miller, Paige Rice, Hunter and Carson Hughes; Willow, River, and Luna Sullivan; and David and Faith Kramer; sisters, Kathy Compton, Cindy Birkner, and Chris Ress; and daughter-in-law, Pam Walters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Richard Walters.

A funeral service for Stephen will be held Thursday, August 3 at 12 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may gather for visitation from 10 am until the time of the service.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
