Wilma Thomas, 95, of Midway St reet , died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center .
Wilma was born on March 29, 1915 in Ripley County , the daughter of Mack and Kate Shonk Perry. She married Marshall Thomas on March 16, 1940 and he preceded her in death in April of 1981.
Wilma attended St. Magdaline School in Ripley County , graduated 8th grade from Elizabethtown School and attended Columbus High School . She had worked for the Reliance shirt factory.
She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church , the Columbus Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and Rockcreek Extension Homemakers’ Clubs. She loved animals, gardening and was interested in farming and all aspects of country life. She also enjoyed collecting and refinishing antique furniture. She was a loving aunt to all her nieces and nephews.
Wilma is survived by a niece, Judy (Paul) Ketner of Hope; a nephew, Richard (Anita) Perry of Columbus; and several grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Waneta Plummer; brothers, Wilbur “Red” Perry and Willard F. Perry; and a nephew, Warren E. Perry.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Jimmy Collins officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery .
