

Anna Lucille Shafer, 99, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, two months short of her 100th birthday. Lucille was born in Columbus, but grew up in Gallia County, Ohio. After graduating from Rio Grande College, she returned to Columbus, where she taught in the Grove City Schools from 1935 to 1955, and in the Columbus Public Schools from 1955 until she retired in 1978. Lucille loved to travel, and was a long-time member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Association for teachers. Survived by brother, Thomas C. Shafer, sister-in-law, Catherine Shafer, and nieces and nephews: Patty (Terry) Lowder, Gary (Beth) Shafer, Rick Shafer, Kay (Dave) Erickson, Ruth (Jeff) Baugher, Fred (Patty) Shafer and Betty (George) Klein. Also seven great and three great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers John R. and Fred W. Shafer and a great nephew. Family will receive friends 2-4pm Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Schoedinger North Chapel 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH 43229 where her funeral service will begin at 4pm; Pastor Pam Patterson, officiating. Private burial in Hill Cemetery, Jackson County, Ohio.
