Arlene "Joy" Wallace, 80, of Hilliard OH (formerly of Reynoldsburg and Pickerington, OH), died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, July 9. She was born June 26, 1933 in Cokato, MN, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1951. She worked for many years at Lazarus Co., and was retired from Ohio Farm Bureau. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard D. Wallace; Children, Gary (Kimberly) Wallace, Linda (Steve) Bennett; grandchildren, Paul (Olivia Solomon) Wallace, David Wallace, Rebecca Neubig; step-grandchildren, Geoffrey Bennett, Christopher Bennett, Elisabeth Bennett; great grandson, Jacob Richard Wallace. Preceded in death by her father, Gustave Ortquist; mother, Agnes Nelson; stepfather, Elmer Nelson; brother, Glenn Ortquist; sister, LouAnn Hannan; and grandson, Jonathan Richard Wallace. Joy was a soft-spoken and unassuming woman whose demeanor belied her strength of character and boundless energy. Although she was employed outside the home for many years, she considered herself to be first and foremost a wife, mother and homemaker. She took great pleasure in caring for her home and family. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a loving and doting grandmother and great grandmother. She was, indeed, the very center of her family. She and her husband were members of Messiah Lutheran Church, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, for 40 years, and most recently attended Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, The Church at Mill Run.
A Celebration of Joy's Life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Rd., Columbus, 43220, where family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 prior to the service. Interment will be held at Lakeside Memorial Garden. A loving cremation has been entrusted to the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation, 236 Walnut Ave., Lakeside, Ohio, 43440 or www.lakesideohio.com.
