Barbara Jean (Case) Fleisher, age 84, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother passed on December 29, 2023 at Westerwood Assisted Living in Westerville, Ohio. Born January 5, 1939 in Owosso, Michigan to the late Homer A. Case and Beulah M. (Brockway) Case. Barbara grew up in the nearby town of Durand and graduated from Durand High School in 1957. The Case family shared their home on several occasions after WWII with relatives who struggled during this difficult economic time after the war. Barbara and her sister, Carolyn enjoyed having their cousins stay at their home as the extra fun outweighed the inconvenience of sharing their bedroom. As a senior at DHS, Barbara and her girlfriends took night courses at GMI (General Motors Institute, now known as Kettering University) which included the benefit of an invitation to the GMI dances. It was at a GMI dance where Barbara met her future husband, John Fleisher.
Barbara married John on August 29, 1958 and after spending some time in Indianapolis, packed up their 6 month old daughter, Christine, to move across the country to California in 1960 where John became an instructor at California State Polytechnic. Interested in learning about her new home state, Barbara would venture out on her own with Christine and a few years later, baby John, in tow.
In 1966, John went to work for the McDonnell-Douglas Mac Air Division in St. Louis, Mo. As in California, Barbara soon learned everything about her new home in St. Charles, Mo and quickly became involved in many activities as a Cub Scout Den mother and a 4-H instructor, teaching sewing and cooking. Barbara was a master crafter, chef and seamstress and was willing to teach new skills that she had learned. The family continued to grow, Robert was born in 1971 and Michael in 1972, which kept Barbara busy with all she loved.
The next move in 1976, took this family of six to Mt. Vernon, Ohio where Barbara continued to be involved in activities with her children and on her own, working at The Leather Shop and Ben Franklin, in their framing department.
Barbara was extremely proud of her home towns of Owosso and Durand, and the state of Michigan. She kept in touch with her family, friends and classmates by visiting frequently and attending many reunions and luncheons. She enjoyed family gatherings in her home, welcoming everyone with a hug.
Survived by daughter, Christine (Kevin), Westerville, Ohio; son, John F. (Lynda), Marysville, Ohio; son, Robert (LeaAnn), Mt. Vernon, Ohio; son, Michael, Lewis Center, Ohio and Sister-in-law, JoAnne Rivera, Ellicott City, Maryland. Nieces and nephews; Greg, Lori, Cindy and Scott. The family would like to thank the staffs of Westerwood Assisted Living and Capital City Hospice for their professional care and support.
Barbara had requested no formal funeral service and asked that her friends and family celebrate with fond remembrance of the good times they had together. A private celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Barbara had requested that you donate to your favorite charity and give a big hug to those you hold dear.
