Barbara Ruth Grossman

Barbara R. (Bischoff) Grossman, age 87, of Grove City was born in Canton, Oh. on January, 18, 1929 to the late Wilbur G and Irma (Streiber) Bischoff. Barbara graduated from Lincoln High School in Canton (1947) and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Capital University (1951). She started her teaching career with the Columbus Public Schools (Dana Ave. school) and after just a few years transferred to Southwestern City Schools as a substitute teacher and then the remaining 25 years of her career as kindergarten teacher at Richard Ave School. After her teaching retirement she worked occasionally at Robarco Inc., a family owned and operated business. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Grove City and served in many capacities. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, and was a member of the Chancel Choir for over 55 years. She was actively involved with the Women's Church Group (WELCA) and several Bible Study groups including being a graduate of the 7 year Interinternational Bible Study Fellowship. She and her husband volunteered for over 20 years delivering meals on wheels as part of the church's ministry. One of her favorite hobbies was flower arranging and in the past she had been a member of several local garden clubs. She was an active member of the Capital University Women's Alumae Group (CUAC) and also served at one time on the Capital University Alumni Board. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Roy W. Grossman and brother, James Bischoff. She is survived by three children, David (Karen) Grossman, Diane (John) Hill, Doug Grossman; grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Grossman, Chris (Sarah) Grossman, Crisha (Greg) House, Megan (Randy) Robinholt, Jerrod Hill, Nick (Megan) Grossman, and Amanda Grossman; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Martha Firm of N. Canton, Oh.; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Funeral Service will be held 12 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017 in the sanctuary of St. John's Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus Street, Grove City, Oh. with Pastor Don Allman officiating. Friends may greet the family Friday, January 13, 2017 from 10 a.m until the time of the service at 12 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Grove City, Oh. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Camp Luther, 3901 Lake Rd., Conneaut, Oh. 44030 or to the Roy W. and Barbara Bischoff Grossman Scholarship, Capital University.
