Betty Carol Potts PhD

Betty Carol Potts, PhD, age 89, passed away in Nashville, TN on June 29, 2023. She was born December 17, 1933, in Wilmington, NC, daughter to Thomas and Eloise Cox. Preceding her in death are her husband, Robert (Bob), and son, Robert, II. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Ann (Beth) of Columbus, OH; daughter Mary Christina (MC) of Nashville, TN; grandsons Benjamin Anderson (Ben) and Michael Anderson, both of Columbus, OH; sister Mary Lou Hearn, of Cumberland, VA; Joe King (Jennifer) of Detroit, MI, and many other beloved family members. She married in 1953 to Robert (Bob) Potts, and moved to Cincinnati, OH where she worked for the Bell Telephone Company. In 1955, the family moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she had three children and completed the master’s degree program at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1967, the family moved to Columbus, where she attended The Ohio State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in home economics, a master’s degree in textiles and clothing, and a doctoral degree in organizational psychology. She went to work for AT&T and joined the staff at Lucent Technologies following their reorganization. She was always an active member of the Presbyterian Church, even serving as elder. She enjoyed reading, Bible Study Fellowship, attending her book club, spending time with her family, and loving on her favorite schnauzer dogs. She served for a time as costume director for Vaud-Villities, and often made her family member’s costumes for their numbers in the show. A memorial/celebration service will be held on October 21, 2023, at 10:30 am at Bethel Presbyterian Church, located at 1735 Bethel Rd., Columbus, OH, 43220. Feel free to show your OSU pride! The family will receive friends in Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. A family graveside service will be held at Kingwood Memorial Park. Donations may be made in her name to Alzheimer’s research, Bethel Presbyterian Church, or Bible Study Fellowship.
