

Beverly Lu Vanscoy Ruff was born August 14, 1940 in Urbana, Ohio, daughter of Myron Gordon Vanscoy and Betty Evalyn Hess. She was a 1958 graduate of Urbana Local High School and the Grant Hospital School of Nursing, Columbus, Ohio in 1961. She met her husband Stanton V. Ruff while studying nursing. They were married August 14, 1964 at the Bowlusville Evangelical United Bretheran Church in Bowlusville, Ohio. The couple lived in Columbus, Ohio where Beverly worked at Grant Medical Center and Stan was employed by General Electric Medical systems as a medical x-ray service engineer. She and her husband are members at Bethany Lutheran Church in Columbus, where she taught Sunday school. Their son Karl Edwin was born in 1970, and she became an active volunteer in the Columbus Public Schools and in the PTA. She served as newsletter editor for many years for Bethany Lutheran Church and secretary/newsletter editor for the Grant Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She was employed by Grant Medical Center from 1961 till 2002 as a staff nurse, admitting nurse coordinator and case manager. She enjoyed reading historical and mystery novels, gardening, working jigsaw puzzles and the old car hobby. Bev passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 30, 2017. Preceded in death by her parents; she is survived by husband, Stan; son, Karl; brothers, Danny M. Vanscoy, Urbana, Ohio and Matthew D. Vanscoy (Shanna), Urbana, Ohio; sisters Marsha K. Vanscoy, Urbana, Ohio, Barbara E. Byrd (Robin), Enon, Ohio and Kathy J. Young, Mesa, Arizona; nieces and nephews, David Vanscoy, Elizabeth Vanscoy Rose, Denton Young, Mandi Young Barclay (Curt), Leslie Byrd Perkins (Jason), Kim Byrd, Andrew Vanscoy and Allison Vanscoy; great nieces and nephews, Jacob Vanscoy, Sarah Rose, Emma Rose Perkins, Tyler Byrd, Cierra Eicholtz, Emily Eicholtz, Caleb Barclay, Brooke Barclay, Silas Barclay and special friends, Rhonda and Liana Burk. The family will receive visitors and friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Saturday, February 4th and Sunday, February 5th at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. A funeral service will be held 10 am Monday, February 6th at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1000 Noe-Bixby Rd, Columbus, Ohio conducted by the Rev. Dr. George Zoebl. Interment Lithopolis Cemetery, Lithopolis, Ohio. Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.
