Carl D. Hart Sr., 80, of Dublin, passed away suddenly Friday, April 29, 2016 while approaching the 17th green at the Golf Club of Dublin. No one gets to choose how they leave this earth. Carl's only wish was that he be on a golf course when it was his time. He'd played 36 on Thursday and was "on a roll". Carl was born November 1, 1935 in Syracuse, NY to the late Arthur and Evelyn (Pentland) Hart. After attending Cathedral High School, he enlisted in the Marines, played baseball with Marines Special Forces Division in Hawaii, and then attended the University of Tampa. He went on to play professional baseball as a first base prospect for the Milwaukee Braves. He loved all sports, especially Syracuse University, the Cleveland Browns, Indians, Cavs, The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Carl was an instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio while at the University of Tampa. In 1973, Carl and Barbara started Crown Favor Company, providing custom decorated merchandise to college fraternities and sororities for over 20 years. He went on to a successful career with Realty Executives Decision as a commercial realtor and was a member of CBR and CREE. Carl served as Vice President and on the Board of Trustees for Brookside Golf and Country Club and was also a member at the Capital Club. He played in seven Memorial Tournament Pro-Ams. He was a major sponsor of the Babe Zaharias Golf and Tennis Classic in the early years. Original committee members fondly remember not only his generosity but also his encouragement to set higher fund raising goals each year. The Babe Zaharias Classic, benefitting the American Cancer Society went on to become one of the largest fundraisers for the ACS in the country. Most people that met Carl wouldn't forget him, as he treated everyone equally and shared an extraordinary sense of humor. If you played golf with Carl you knew your score didn't count with him until the ball was in the hole. Carl was a devoted Catholic and attended mass every week. As a remembrance in his honor, say a prayer. Then, call a friend, a relative or someone you've been meaning to catch up with. Go have a cup of coffee, a meal or play a round of golf. Have a Johnny Walker, light a cigar and make a toast to Carl. No public services will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at the Golf Club of Dublin and Dublin Methodist Hospital ER for their care and consideration on Friday afternoon. Also the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Western Golf Association Evans Scholars at wgaesf.org, or the Capital Area Humane Society at cahs-pets.org. His kind heart and caring spirit will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years Barbara (Malone) Hart; children Valerie M. Gregory of San Diego, Colleen L. Hart of Sydney, Australia, Carl D. Hart, Jr. (Kristen) of Grandview Heights and grandson Theo Gregory II of Colorado Springs.
Carl has left the building.
