Catherine Smith Mead passed away on October 7, 2013. She was born on July 11, 1924 in Sharon Springs, New York. She attended State Teacher's College at Albany, New York and received her BA in English in 1944 and a BS in Library Science in 1947.
She married John Mead on February 6, 1947. She became Post Librarian at Camp Drake, Japan from 1953-1955. She then worked at the Post Library in Ft. Hood, Texas from 1955-1963. She was Assistant State Librarian at the State Library in Columbus, Ohio from 1971-1983. Her name is included in the Who's Who of American Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LTC John Mead, US Army, Ret., and her son, CDR Gregory Mead, US Navy, Ret.
She is survived by her grand children, Christopher Mead of Houston, TX and Emily Mead of Edinburgh, UK, her sister, Marjorie Diana of Venice, FL, her niece, Margaret Diana of Venice, Florida, and her good friends and caretakers, Harold and Janet Loughry of Columbus, OH.
A memorial service will be held on October 30th, 2013 at 10 am, at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232.
