

Cheryl “Cherie” Ann Escue, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, friends, and pets. Cherie was born on May 9, 1943, in Athens, Ohio to the late Grover Mitchell and the late Dorothy (Kapp) Mitchell. Cherie is survived by daughter’s Beth Escue of Columbus, and Dottie (Tom Huebner) of Kingston Springs, TN; grandsons Dominic Escue and Mitchell Moncada; granddaughters Sofia Moncada and Mary Elizabeth Huebner; her long-term companion Russ Eckley; sister Judy Couper; cousin Frank Quillin; and beloved by many nieces, nephews, and friends who became family.
Cherie was a 1961 graduate of Point Pleasant High School in WV. After high school, she completed her professional degree in nursing from St. Francis School of Nursing in Columbus, OH. She retired from Columbus Developmental Center where she worked in Staff Development and served as the Director of Nursing and Infection Control Nurse. Cherie was a devoted mother to her daughters throughout their lives and worked tirelessly to support their extra-curricular activities as well as their higher education. She was very giving of her time and loved being a grandmother to her four grandchildren. Cherie was a woman of faith and raised in the Presbyterian Church. Cherie was truly a life-long football and marching band fan of The Ohio State University (OSU), always rooting for her Buckeyes at a game or from home. Her game day parties were always looked forward to by family and friends. She was a diehard Democrat, loved music, dancing, and laughing with friends at lunch. Cherie enjoyed traveling around the world with her family, including numerous trips to Europe with her mother, sister, daughters, and nieces. She was a competitive game-player and enjoyed beating her family and friends in spirited Euchre games.
Beth would like to say a special thank you to Rick Blazer, Amanda Blazer, Russ Eckley, Suzanne Kincaid, Barb Heretta, Susie Burke, Rhonda Clark, Lisa Chopko,David Greenlee and OhioHealth Hospice as without their assistance, Cherie would not have been able to be at home for her transition from this life.
The Escue family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11am to 12pm at Schoedinger Northwest, located at 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Services will immediately follow at 12pm. Following services, there will be a memorial luncheon at Bethel Presbyterian Church located at 1735 Bethel Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43220.
