

Creola Colston Dickey, 104, passed away, June 29th at her residence, surrounded by family. She was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina, to Aurelius and Gertrude Tuttle. She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and graduated from Ann Arbor High School. She attended Ferris Institute, a private college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She married Odell Colston of Columbus, Ohio, the parents of 4 children. She worked at the Curtiss-Wright Aviation Plant during WW II, library assistant, Board of Education, Census Bureau, State Highway Department, Columbus Metropolitan Library, and The Columbus Urban League, until retirement. In 2006, Creola was inducted into the Ohio Senior citizen’s Hall of Fame. She was a longtime member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Unity Circle Club and class #31.Lifetime Membership Award from the Columbus Urban League Guild. Former Member of the League of Women voters, National Council of Negro Women, Retired Teachers Mega Book Club, Columbus Duke and Duchess Social Club. Preceded in death by her sister, Geneve Richardson, husbands, Odell Colston and Kenneth Dickey, daughter, Cozette Yates, son, Kermit Colston, grandson, Jerome Blanton, and 11 other siblings. Creola is survived by her daughter, Joan Pruitt, Columbus,Ohio; son, Odell Colston Jr., New York; brother, Eugene Allen, Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Jasmine Duffy, Columbus, Ohio, Charmaine Richardson, California; great-granddaughters, Brandi Duffy, Arlington. Virginia, Katourah Blanton, Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandsons, Mesan Richardson, and Mark Richardson of California, Marcus Blanton, Phoenix Arizona; great great grandchildren, Immanuel, Ifeyanni, and Solomon; nieces, Audrey Graham and Dr. Norma Mullins, and Mary F. Miles of Queens, New York, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service 12:00, Wed. July 6th, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 639 E. Long Street with Dr. Michael R.
