Dan/"Poppy" was a first-class member of The Greatest Generation. Dan proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp. in World War II - the big one - and supported and loved his family like no one else has.
Dan was not a big joiner - but he belonged to the American Legion and, like his father before him, was a lifetime Mason.
Dan was raised with a group of fellow hell-raisers in Tonawanda, NY. Following his service to our Country, he graduated from Canisius College (in Buffalo) with a degree in mathematics. He then pursued a career in sales, and was one of the best - first working with Buffalo Bolt, then relocating to Columbus to work until retirement with Mid State Nut and Bolt. Dan loved his road trips!
Dan was always incredibly supportive of everything that his children and grandchildren did. He was generous to a fault. Dan was also very competitive as a partner, with his granddaughter on the "Hot Tamales" euchre team.
Dan had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh and hear others laugh.
In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by his sister, Dr. June Shane. He is loved by his wife of 70 years, Verna, who looks forward to dancing again with him in the (distant) future, his son Dan (Diana), his daughters Karen Mulbay and Susan (Bill) Loveland, his grandchildren Angela (Matt) Markowicz, Ashley (Aaron) Wilkinson, Megan (Chad) Meyer, Matt Loveland, Neil (Danielle) Grant, Daniel Grant, and Valerie Semeniakaite, and his great grandchildren, Makayla, Mia, Mitchell, Bentley and Charlie.
Per Dan's adamant wishes, there will be no formal funeral or service. Instead, a party in his honor will be held at a later date - and you can bet that the Manhattans will be flowing!
The family wants to offer special thanks to Gloria, Marilyn, Nuha, Sara and Christina from the Forum, and Elaine and Misty from Wesley Hospice, for their kind work in helping Dan in his final years and days. You are all angels on earth. In his honor please consider a donation to Wesley Hospice or a charity of your choice.
For all that you gave us and taught us Dad/Poppy - we "Thank you very Kindly!"
