David C Hoppenstand

Dr. David C. Hoppenstand, D.D.S., 83, of Westerville, passed away November 19, 2015. He was born on February 28, 1932 in Seattle, WA to the late David and Julia (Andersen) Hoppenstand. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Gregory and Davonia Hoppenstand. David served honorably in the US Air Force and completed two tours of duty during the Korean War. He was also a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. David had his own dental practice which at one point was the largest single practice in central Ohio and served as a Professor of Dentistry at OSU. He embraced life and loved woodworking, golf, traveling, was an avid Ohio boater and was always thinking about his next project to satisfy his design and engineering talents. To say David was an OSU fan is an understatement. He loved the Buckeyes and was proud to be the Assistant Team Dentist under Woody Hayes. David was a longtime member of the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and later Central College Presbyterian Church, a member of the CDA, ODA and ADA professional dental societies, Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity at OSU, OSURA, and the Men's Group of the Clintonville Woman's Club. He was an adored family patriarch who will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 29 years, Sara V. (Carter) Hoppenstand; children Dr. Gary C. (Becky) Hoppenstand, Davida C. Hoppenstand (Shawn) Frick, Elizabeth Borst (Steve) Mankowski, Michael (Molly) Borst, Rhonda Hoppenstand Adams and Dave (Connie) Hoppenstand; siblings Paula Hoppenstand (Rollie) Jones and Dela Hoppenstand Robbins; and 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He dearly loved his former staff, patients, professional colleagues and close friends. Private family services will be held at a later date.
